“Smart TV system automatically updated to Web OS, but the update does NOT allow the user to actually make a choice about privacy settings. See arrow to User Agreement in Photo1 below. For the TV to function, the user MUST select Agree all, which automatically checks all 5 choices (which can’t be read under settings). If any other choice is selected (such as Back or Later), the user is automatically returned to the screen in photo1. The navigation buttons don’t work as they should. Only when one selects “Agree all” can one use the Apps as listed in Furrion3. Forced choice is no choice.”

LG was reported to the Deceptive Design Tip Line over the privacy settings on its smart TVs. According to the report, the TV automatically updated to webOS, but the update did not allow the user to make a genuine choice about privacy settings. For the TV to function the user had to select “Agree all”, which automatically checked all five choices, while selecting any other option such as “Back” or “Later” returned the user to the same screen. The reporter said the navigation buttons did not work as they should and that a forced choice is no choice.
